Humanistic life-stance organisation
Flourishing – a humanist life-stance association – was founded at its inaugural meeting on 23 March 2025 at Safnahúsið in Reykjavík. At the meeting, the association’s founding document was adopted by its founding members. This document comprises the association’s statutes, conceptual framework, code of ethics, and its policy on freedom of belief and equality. A board was elected, along with two auditors. Flourishing was established to serve as a forum for discussion and learning about those values that matter significantly to families in society and that shape our lives. Its conceptual framework states, among other things, that Flourishing is grounded in
life-views based on ethical realism and naturalism, free from superstition and from notions of higher beings or supernatural powers. Emphasis is placed on life-values derived from humanist philosophical traditions, on shared human values, and on a virtue-ethical approach to the association’s work.
The association offers ceremonial services for naming ceremonies, weddings, and funerals. The primary focus of its activities lies in advocacy, educational work, and public discussion. A programme of such activities will be announced in due course.
