Name-giving ceremonies
All children are given a name. If parents wish to do so formally in the presence of family and friends, it is ideal to request a ceremony leader to make the occasion more festive. Name-giving ceremonies in the humanist tradition serve this purpose, while also drawing attention—through a short reflection—to the ethical considerations about upbringing and family life that naturally arise when thinking about the child’s future.
The ceremony may be enriched with beautiful symbolic elements, and it is even possible to designate someone present as a guardian or sponsor of the child. The ceremony leader advises on all of these aspects during the preparatory meeting.
Fee for a name-giving ceremony: ISK 35,000
Members of Flourishing receive a 10% discount on the total fee.
The fee includes a preparatory meeting (in person or online) and the ceremony itself.
Additional charges may apply for travel if the ceremony takes place outside the ceremony leader’s home region (approximately a 20 km radius) or if waiting time exceeding one hour occurs at the ceremony location. If the ceremony takes place on a public holiday, a surcharge may apply.
