Flourishing is now a member of Humanists International

On May 4th, we received the welcome news that Humanists International (HI) had approved Flourishing’s application for membership and welcomed us into its global family of more than 120 humanist organisations across over 60 countries worldwide.

The admission process took approximately two months. After HI’s Board approved the application, all member organisations were given the opportunity to review both the application and the association itself. Following this process, Flourishing was formally admitted.

At the same time, two other organisations were also accepted for membership: the Costa Rican Association of Secular Humanism and the British Columbia Humanist Association in Canada, as an associate. See HI news.

Humanists International was founded in 1952 in Amsterdam, and its founding declaration is therefore known as the Amsterdam Declaration. This declaration forms part of Flourishing’s philosophical foundation—see further details there. Over the decades, Humanist International has been a leading force in the development of humanism and has provided strong support to its member organisations.

Every third year, the organisation holds its World Congress. This year it will take place in Ottawa, Canada, from 7.–9. August. Attending Humanists International’s congresses is always rewarding, as they bring together both important contemporary issues and outstanding speakers.
